Three Lessons from Designing Landing Pages for 50 Indie Projects
What I learned from helping makers launch: keep it short, test early, and ditch the carousel.
Over the past year, I've reviewed landing pages for over 50 indie projects—everything from productivity apps to niche newsletters. Three patterns kept coming up, and they're worth sharing.
First, shorter pages almost always convert better. If you can explain your product in one screenful, do it. Scrolling is a tax you impose on visitors. Second, test your headline with real people before you launch. Ask them to repeat back what you do. If they can't, rewrite. Third, carousels are dead. No one clicks through them. Pick one hero image or video and commit.
These aren't groundbreaking, but they're easy to ignore when you're in a rush. A template can help enforce good habits—like keeping the hero focused and the page lean.
